Maundy Thursday Bread Recipe

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup + 1 tablespoon warm water
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour or bread flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil

Activate your yeast: combine 1/2 cup warm water, sugar, and yeast in a small bowl at let sit about 5 minutes.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and oil. Stir together. Add enough remaining water to form a soft dough. Knead lightly for 2-3 minutes. Drizzle dough with a drop of olive oil, return to the bowl, cover and let rise for an hour. Divide dough into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a disk about 1/4 inch thick. Heat a pan on medium heat until hot. Place each disk in the pan and cook 2-3 minutes on each side until golden and fluffy.
