Esau and Jacob, as twins, were constantly in brotherly competition much to Rebecca's dismay. Despite Esau's "birthright" as the first born, his parents did not want him to have it. When an expectation does not turn out the way we want it to, it causes a breach of trust in between families, sometimes for years.
