Hurricane Disaster Response

Hurricane Helene has caused widespread devastation across the southeastern U.S., bringing destructive winds, heavy rains, and severe flooding to numerous states and communities. In response, UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) is actively coordinating with affected annual conferences and supporting local relief efforts.

UMCOR steps in when disasters overwhelm a community’s ability to recover, offering compassionate care in times of need. United Methodist churches often serve as the first responders, providing immediate relief and hope.

Here’s how you can help:

  1. Give to UMCOR Advance (Helene): Support UMCOR’s disaster response by making an online donation to Advance #901670 here. This fund helps sustain mission programs and personnel working on disaster recovery.
  2. Give to Appalachia Service Project (ASP): Support ASP’s disaster response by making an online donation here. This fund helps sustain mission programs and personnel working on disaster recovery.
  3. Donate Cleaning Kits: Throughout October, Trinity is partnering with local United Methodist churches to collect Cleaning Kits for communities affected by Hurricane Helene and future disasters. These kits are vital to UMCOR’s response teams in flooded areas. You can donate items needed to assemble a kit or put together a complete kit with your small group or family. Drop off donations at the Welcome Center at both the Oxmoor and West Homewood campuses. For a list of kit items and assembly instructions, click here.
  4. Volunteer for Appalachia Service Project (ASP) this Summer: This summer our student ministry will be serving alongside our mission partner to make recovery efforts all throughout the Appalachia territory. As our team works to finalize dates, locations, and trip sizes, it would be incredibly helpful to know that you are interested in helping out.
